What other behaviours do we often embody, and at times even enforce on others, without thinking them through to their core purpose? Do our actions align with our core values and morals? Do we even know our own personal values and morals, or the sort of unique individual that we want to be? As opposed to just being groomed into yet another similar someone that fits in? We were taught to, were we not? In a corporate setting, the typical consensus is that our appearance accounts for 50% of how we are initially perceived. That's a lot of judgement based on looks, no? Churches, reunions, weddings and social events all tend to have a similar set of expectations, going as far as tying '''our''' appearance to the level of respect that we have for '''them''' - those perceiving and '''judging us'''!! If this seems normal to you, please take a moment to contrast this ''adult world'' of expectations we place on others, with how we tend to teach our kids to '''never judge a book by its cover! It's what inside that counts'''! We quickly find ourselves in a bit of a dilemma, don't we?

Since some social ''rebels'' are already fighting a good fight on this front, let's go to a more nuanced consideration on mannerisms, like dinner table etiquette for example. What if such practices were just another mechanism to further divide us from one another? Think about it, at a subconscious level, it must make us feel ''better'' than others, perhaps giving us a tiny hit of dopamine from feeling ''educated'' or ''in the know'', being part of a more elite group of sophisticated humans that know how to behave, as opposed to a lower class ''trashy'' behaviour that doesn't know better due to poor parenting, poor choice, poor whatever ''their personal fault and static and unchangeable character trait'' may be.

Ever encountered a homeless person or ''street beggar'' and thought ''get a job, you lazy bum''? You likely felt sad and compassionate the very first time, but after hearing people around you discuss such a topic, you may have found yourself hardened, as if betrayed by these strangers pushing carts (and dirtying ''your'' streets). Meanwhile of course, you despise your own mundane 9-to-5 or redundant retail job, then tell yourself you are being the responsible, financially independent citizen who pays their taxes and contributes to society - the good/better one. Judging others for their shortfalls in this very same society suddenly becomes normal. Don't beat yourself up for it though, blue collar whites have a long history of exactly such direct and indirect, conscious and subconscious discrimination against blacks in the u.s.a. We mastered language so we can reduce unnecessary friction and resolve conflicts without resorting to violence. Where is the love and forgiveness everyone preaches about in times of war? There is no "us vs them," there is only ever been "us," and our ignorance. All of us.

All we really need, is '''to talk'''. Fighting is easy. What is keeping us from putting together all the lessons learned from failed systems towards creating an entirely new way of life that can please and satisfy '''everyone'''? Is such a goal not even worth an attempt at a global conversation, given that we now have the 21st century tools to accomplish this? That's a lot of judgement based on looks, is it not? Churches, reunions, weddings and social events all tend to have a similar set of expectations, going as far as tying '''our''' appearance to the level of respect that we have for '''them''' - those perceiving and '''judging us'''!! If this seems normal to you, please take a moment to contrast this ''adult world'' of expectations we place on others, with how we tend to teach our kids to ''never judge a book by its cover''! How ''it's what inside that counts''! Remember your most recent conversation on how to think about, or treat a homeless person or ''street beggar''? Was it ever a thought similar to ''get a job, you lazy bum''? All while despising your own mundane 9-to-5 or redundant retail job, but lie to yourself about being the responsible, financially independent citizen who pays their taxes and contributes to society? All while judging others for their shortfalls in this very same society? Blue collar whites and blacks have a long history of exactly such direct and indirect, conscious and subconscious discrimination in the u.s.a. (we had to study this phenomenon during grad studies in psychological development). So then one must stop and think, what else about ourselves and the things we accept as our only reality have we not considered before? What other behaviours do we often embody, and at times even enforce on others, without thinking them through to their core purpose? Do our actions align with our core values and morals? Do we even know our own personal values and morals, or the sort of unique individual that we want to be? As opposed to just being groomed into yet another similar someone that fits in? Some group that we feel we choose for ourselves, but in reality, it is just another group option that was pre-created, leaving us only with the ability to choose from what is already there and not creating anything new? Do we know how to be ourselves? Would we not need to make many mistakes to discover ourselves, by the very definition of learning and growing, the same way we fall as we learn to stand or to bike? Have we ever even learned ''how to learn'' from our mistakes in a society, or are we simply frowned upon when we make any? Are we even capable of ''seeing'' our mistakes as a path to personal growth and identity, or are we quick to judge ourselves for making the mistake and doing our best to avoid even trying in the future, stagnating our very own development for the sake of conformity and group acceptance?</ins>

I don't. Not anymore. Not for a long while now.

I hope you too will one day see what so many folks I meet all around the world already see - that change is easy in unity. Change can only happen when we (you and I) care enough to understand each other by carefully listening to each other. As in, the very thing we tell our kids to do: not judging a book by its cover, or letting the media and our so-called leaders continue to do the judging for us. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that they have failed miserably at doing so. Let's talk. Let's listen. Let's understand one another, and redesign our reality, together.</ins>
