Build shared infrastructure — seed libraries, tool libraries, open-source fabrication, renewable energy cooperatives. Develop and freely share the knowledge systems: how to build with earth, how to grow food in every climate, how to hold conflict restoratively, how to govern by sortition, how to educate without schools. Make the alternative so concrete, functional, and beautiful that the contrast with the old world becomes undeniable.
Phase 2 — Proliferate (20 to 60 years)
As the old world's crises deepen — climate destabilization, inequality, political dysfunction, meaning collapse — the prefigurative communities become increasingly attractive. Millions move into or affiliate with them. The key dynamic: as more people participate in commons-based life, they withdraw participation from the market and the state.
